Meet Oreo, a 1-year-old pit bull who was abused by her owner and thrown out a 6 story building.
The ASPCA took in Oreo. But after providing her with care, they began temperament testing and deemed her aggressive.
Pet's Alive, an organization with experience working with aggressive dogs and helping them become adoptable, offered to take in Oreo. The ASPCA refused to answer their offers, hanging up on their calls and refusing to allow Pet Ink to remove Oreo from their facility. They then euthanized Oreo.
Oreo's Law was created to make it illegal for organizations to kill animals who are offered a home in another organizaion. There is no excuse for the ASPCA killing a dog with several organizations willing to take her in and find her a new home. The ASPCA has since then refused to support Oreo's Law, keeping it from being passed. About 25,000 animals a year could have been saved by this law, but they have all been murdered for no reason.
