This add against PETA applies to the HSUS and ASPCA also. They advertise using animals in cages and abusive situations, asking for immediate donations to help these animals, and then they use less than 1% of their donations on actually helping these animals.
The advertisements by the ASPCA and HSUS are very misleading. They claim to prevent euthanasia, and yet they euthanize their own animals more than necessary. They also fight against no-kill reform.
These organizations then spend the majority of the money they make on more advertising. In 2013, HSUS spent $50 million on advertising, which was 41% of their budget. 40% more of their money is spent on advertising than on actually helping animals.
This pedigree video gives an example of what a better ASPCA and HSUS could use to advertise. This would encourage people to help animals instead of prying donations from people out of their sadness and guilt. It would inspire better and more complete support from people, and they would strive to help the animal find a new home and new life instead of just saving them from their old problems and then euthanizing them. It would also force the two organizations to fully help the animals find their forever home instead of saving animals, using them for a quick commercial, and then euthanizing them.
